How often should I apply
TripleGuard Plus for Dogs?

We recommend that you apply TripleGuard Plus™ for dogs monthly throughout the year. If you frequently bathe your dog, re-application can be made in 3 weeks, but we recommend waiting at least 3 weeks from the time of the last application.

Why isn’t TripleGuard Plus for Dogs
applied over my dog’s entire body?

TripleGuard Plus™ for Dogs has ingredients which are carried through the oil in your dog’s coat and skin to kill and repel fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. The application need only be applied as a spot to the skin at three or more different locations along the dog’s back between the shoulder blades base of the tail. TripleGuard Plus™ for Dogs is absorbed and distributed on the dog by the sebaceous glands (microscopic glands in the skin that secrete an oily/waxy matter called sebum to lubricate and waterproof the skin and fur).

Will TripleGuard™ Plus kill the fleas and dogs currently on my dog?

Yes. The Permethrin in TripleGuard Plus™ for Dogs is a fast-acting pesticide and repellant of fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, biting flies, mites, and lice. Following application, the medicine spreads across the skin surface of the dog and dissolves into the skin. The pyrethroids bind tightly to the hair shaft when they reach the hair follicle and remain there. Permethrin requires contact of the insect with the chemical compound to repel them. The compound is absorbed through the cuticle of the parasite and exerts a toxic effect on the nerves of the parasite, acting as a noxious stimulus, causing a flushing effect where the fleas become hyperactive. Ticks will exhibit a “hot foot” behavior, scurrying across the animal, eventually falling off and dying.

How long does it take for the product to work?

Because permethrin requires contact of the insect with the chemical compound to repel and kill them, you may see fleas or ticks on your pet following application. TripleGuard Plus™ has demonstrated greater than 92% control of fleas within one day of application. Depending on the size of the dog and the oils on their skin, it may take 24 to 48 hours for the product to be absorbed throughout the dog’s skin. Generally, once the fleas or ticks come in contact with the permethrin on the dog’s skin, they should die in less than 4 hours.

Does TripleGuard Plus™ kill mites, chiggers, and mange?

TripleGuard Plus™ for Dogs kills and repels all types of mites. However, because mites are known to burrow beneath the skin, if your dog already has mites, you should consult your veterinarian for suggestions for a complete program to eliminate them. (Chiggers are larvae stage of mites, mange is an infestation of mites). TripleGuard Plus™ is an effective preventative for mites as it will kill and repel them, but if your dog already has mites, it will not treat the infestation.

Will TripleGuard Plus™ for Dogs take care of all my flea problems?

No. As with all flea and tick control products, TripleGuard Plus™ for Dogs should be used as part of a program aimed at reducing flea populations in the dog’s environment (bedding, carpets, kennel, and yard). TripleGuard Plus™ will kill fleas on the dog, but not those that are in his bedding, carpets or yard.

TripleGuard Plus™ will also kill flea eggs and larvae on the dog, thus preventing them from becoming adults and reproducing. It will not stop them from multiplying in the environment around the dog. We recommend that you replace or treat your dog’s bedding, and treat your carpets and yard with products that will kill fleas in those areas. We recommend consult your veterinarian for complete program recommendations.

What if my dog still has fleas after applying the product?

The permethrin in TripleGuard Plus™ for Dogs requires the contact of the insect with the chemical compound to repel and kill them. The compound is absorbed into the parasite which has a toxic effect. This is a noxious stimulus, causing the parasites to become hyperactive, fall off and eventually die. Because permethrin requires contact of the insect with the chemical compound to repel and kill them, you may see fleas or ticks on your pet following application. TripleGuard Plus™ has demonstrated greater than 92% control of fleas within one day of application but it can take 24 to 48 hours for the product to be absorbed and spread across the dog’s skin, providing more complete protection.
